Does Trade Liberalization Foster Intimate Partner Violence?

By exploiting an unexpected policy change in the form of drastic tariffs reduction across several industries Peru during 2000s we are able to causally show that districts where industries’ employment predominantly male, trade liberalization produced increase physical intimate partner violence 36 percentage points with respect control our preferred specification. We find no such difference is female. These findings original and consistent hypotheses social sciences. Our results robust falsification placebo tests, sensitivity initial conditions, conflation past current shocks, selective migration, permutation tests input-tariffs considerations.
